For no man can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ – 1 Corinthians 3:11
A Christian home is one in which God is present and alive in the lives of the parent. It is Christian not just in name, but in reality. Christ is present through His Spirit in the lives of His followers who live there. To be more specific, a Christian home is never defined as what the children are doing but what the parents are doing.
Your child could attend Sunday schools, read the bible, listen to godly music, have godly friends and so on, but yet still not live in a Christian home.
Your dear children cannot do many things no matter how good they are, to change or make your home a Christian home. But, its left to you their parents to make your home a Christian home.
In real-life scenario, a physical house built without or with a weak foundation is going to go down, only a strong foundation sustains a building for a long time. In the same vein, Christ is the foundation of a christian home; it is important to know that ust because Christ is present in a home doesn’t mean that Christ is that home’s foundation. But as a parent, you must choose to build your own house, your family, on the rock of Christ and His word if you want to build a Christian home that will stand for God, both physically and spiritually.
But how do you come about that? A church that teaches parents how to “bring up their children in the instruction of the Lord.” is the answer. You are to nurture your children from the life of God that is already in resident in you.
What does that nurture look like?It is helping your children understand the ways (lesson) and instruction of life with Christ and you may want to attend a living church to help you understand more about the way of life with Christ.
It is important to note that, what will lay a strong foundation for a Christian home is not just a formula for what to do, but otherwise a description of the spiritual and life-giving priorities that should characterize their parenting.
